Hard of hearing over-70s report memory loss and mental health problems in lockdown

Around 70 per cent of people over the age of 70 have hearing loss according to the World Health Organisation
People with hearing difficulties experienced heightened self-reported depression, loneliness, and memory problems during the Covid-19 lockdown, according to an online survey of the over 70s.
The study, published in the International Journal of Audiology, was carried out by experts at the University of Sheffield, The University of Manchester andLancaster University. ....

Closing micromobility gender gap in cities

Austrian author, artist and feminist Rosa Mayreder (1858-1938) said that cycling did more for female emancipation than all the efforts of feminists put together. She claimed it allowed women to go out unaccompanied, ditch impractical “billowing” clothing and gain a more active image, bolstering social equality.
Still, statistics have persistently shown a gender imbalance in cycling, and more recently scootering, with more men typically wheeling around.
This is slowly changing, though, and lessons learned during the pandemic could improve things further, said panellists on a webinar presented by the London Women in Mobility (WiM) network and Cities Today, moderated by Olga Anapryenka, a co-founder of the WiM London Hub and a Senior Consultant in New Mobility at Steer. ....

Building a bolder TasTAFE

TasTAFE is in a stronger position than ever before, and since coming to Government we have paid off Labor’s debt, invested $41.8 million in new facilities and seen TAFE awarded 7 years accreditation.
Thanks to TAFE’s hard work, Tasmania has the highest apprentice and trainee completions rates in Australia, and TAFE students were awarded Australia’s Apprentice of the Year and Vocational Student of the Year late last year.
It is now time to take the next steps in TAFE’s evolution.
One of the strongest themes in PESRAC is the critical role of skills in building recovery in Tasmania and TasTAFE’s central role in this. ....
