A few months back, many Louisianans expected marijuana to be legalized this year. Now, that s not happening, at least not yet.
The Louisiana House has rejected a bill that would essentially set the tax rate for recreational marijuana in the state of Louisiana. It wasn t even close, in reality, meaning we re most likely nowhere close to the full-on legalization of recreational weed. When all of the votes were cast, the results were 47-48 against. The legislation would need a 2/3rds approval to pass and move on, or 70 votes for YES.
So, unless those in support of this bill can find a way to flip 23 votes in an upcoming legislative session, don t expect Louisiana to join the many other states profiting off of recreational marijuana. ....

The surprise march of marijuana legalization through the Legislature is likely over for the session after the House rejects a bill that would set the tax rate for recreational pot sales. The final vote was 47-48 against. The tax legislation would’ve need 70 votes, or a two-thirds majority, for approval.
Mandeville Representative Richard Nelson said his legalization effort would have generated a lot of revenue for the state.
“The truth is right now all this money? We have zero. It’s nothing, it’s all going to the drug dealers,” said Nelson. “If we don’t pass this bill it’s going to go to the drug dealers this year, it’s going to go to the drug dealers next year, it’s probably going to go to the drug dealers the year after that.” ....

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - State Representative Candace Newell (D) says she, along with many women like to wear their hair in a more natural style.
“I just want people to be comfortable in their own skin”, said Newell.
That’s why she’s filed a bill to put an end to discrimination against certain types of hairstyles.
“The heat, the chemicals that we have to put on our hair just to make it straight, to make our counterparts comfortable and to be accepted, it’s a lot”, she explained. ....
