Murdered Akwa Ibom Jobseeker Iniobong Umoren Buried In Hometown

The remains of Iniobong Umoren were on Friday buried in her hometown, Nung Ita in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Ms Umoren, an orphan and 26-year-old graduate of Philosophy from the University of Uyo, was murdered while seeking employment in Uyo.
The police have arrested a suspect, Uduak Akpan, who confessed to the crime, although he claims it was in self-defence.
Ms Umoren was also physically and sexually assaulted, the Akwa Ibom police have said.
Mr Akpan had invited Ms Umoren for a job interview at Airport Road, Ibiaku junction on April 29 where he apparently carried out the atrocities. ....

Ondo Govt Imposes 24-Hour Curfew On Community Over Chieftaincy Crisis

The Ondo State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Ikare-Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko North East Local Government Area of the State as a result of the violent clashes in the town over a chieftaincy title.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo via a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the curfew takes immediate effect.
“In the meantime, Government has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities relating to the Olokoja chieftaincy title,” he said.
“In this regard, no one is permitted to parade himself as Olokoja, or engage in promotional activities relating to the title in question. This directive takes immediate effect.” ....

JUST IN: Baba Ijesa Faces Possible Life Imprisonment As Lagos Govt Set To File Charges

The Lagos State Government may soon charge Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, popularly known as ‘Baba Ijesa’, for sexual assault by penetration, among other crimes.
The sexual assault charge is punishable by life imprisonment.
The State’s Directorate of Public Prosecutions recommended five charges “after due consideration of the facts in the case file,” Lagos State Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, said in a statement on Tuesday.
Baba Ijesa was recently caught on tape harassing a minor.
In a video that went viral on social media, he was also seen confessing to the crime and pleading for forgiveness.
After he was detained, reports emerged that the accused was soon going to be released by the police. ....

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has nullified the conviction and seven years jail term imposed on a former spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
A three-man panel of the court led by Justice Stephen Adah in a unanimous judgment held that the proceedings of the Federal High Court leading to the conviction of Metuh and his company, Destra Investment Limited, were tainted with bias and therefore must not be allowed to stand. ....
