Women representation in Qatar’s booming energy industry will be vital for the future as the country, which is the world’s top LNG exporter, aims to build a diverse workforce to meet new challenges amid growing global energy demands, an official from French energy giant Engie has said. 
In an interview with The Peninsula, Majda Soussi, who is Head of the Women in Networking (WIN) Group and External Communications Manager at Engie Middle East, South & Central Asia, Turkey and Africa region, said Qatar has a rich pool of female talents who can make valuable contributions in the energy industry. She also stressed that the current transformation seen in the global energy sector demonstrates increasing commitment by industry players to cleaner energy sources.  ....

How Black Americans used portraits and family photographs to defy stereotypes


When mass media exploded in the late 19th century, degrading images of Black Americans – as inferior, clownish and dangerous – saturated nearly every aspect of popular culture, from music to advertising.
The evolution of radio, film and television in the 20th century only amplified demeaning images, providing “proof” to white Americans of Black inferiority and a justification for denying them their rights.
Today, many of these same tired images persist and continue to feed baseless perceptions. A 2017 study showed that the news media continue to “inaccurately portray Black families as more poor, criminal and unstable than white families.”
When those malicious images first started to proliferate, Black Americans found an especially effective way to resist. They seized upon the camera to represent themselves, using photographs to depict who they really were. Seemingly a “magical instrument” for “the displaced and marginalized,” as critic bell hooks ....

Customs and Border Patrol detained more aliens at the southern border in February than any other year since 2006. Nearly 100,000 aliens were arrested last month, according to CBP officials who spoke to Reuters.
