The 10th Mullum Music Festival and Brunswick Valley Landcare Mother‘s Day Tree Planting will be held on Sunday, May 9.
The planting will be held at a property on Dingo Lane in Myocum from 9am to 1pm.
“We’ll be planting another 1000 trees, so join us from 9am to celebrate all mums with live music by Smokey Fields, Mykaela Jay, and James Kent, and food, refreshments and info stalls by Brunswick Valley Landcare and supporters,” the organisers said in a statement. ....

Husband of Byron 'legend' calls for legacy to be honoured

A touching gesture will honour a significant contributor to community groups in the Byron Shire.
Nino MacDonald addressed Byron Shire Council at its meeting on Thursday to encourage it to support calls for a memorial bench to acknowledge the contributions of his late wife, Judy.
During the 18 years that she was actively engaged in the life of the shire she became well known for the drive, energy, commitment and enthusiasm that she brought to whatever undertaking was at hand, Mr MacDonald said.
He said the proposed location of Heritage Park in Mullumbimby would be very appropriate for a bench to be installed in Judy s memory. ....

A fishing conservation charity says it has recently planted 360 native trees on the Brunswick River, ‘to revegetate the riverbanks bordering two properties along Main Arm Road’. 
OzFish Unlimited says their volunteers worked with community groups, Brunswick Valley Landcare and Replant Byron to help reinvigorate the local ecosystem and improve habitat for native fish. 
Lilly pilly, sandpaper fig and lomandra were planted to ‘stabilise eroded areas and enhance the overall health and habitat values for native fish populations and other wildlife’.  
Project officer, Daniela Wilken-Jones, said, ‘Riverbank planting is essential for healthy fish habitat’. ....

Fishing conservation charity OzFish Unlimited recently planted 360 native trees on the Brunswick River to revegetate the riverbanks bordering two properties along Main Arm Road. OzFish volunteers worked with community groups Brunswick Valley Landcare and Replant Byron to help reinvigorate the local ecosystem and improve habitat for native fish.
Native trees and shrubs planted included lilly pilly, sandpaper fig and lomandra, which will stabilise eroded areas and enhance the overall health and habitat values for native fish populations and other wildlife.
OzFish North Coast NSW Project Officer, Daniela Wilken-Jones highlighted the importance planting trees have to the overall health of the river system. ....
