Montague home gardeners fight food insecurity with grassroots effort

Home gardeners came together last summer to donate locally grown produce to those who were struggling financially amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the organizers hope to expand their efforts even further.
The food drive was organized by Drawdown Montague, a group that advocates for grassroots responses to climate change. While food insecurity may not seem directly related to climate change, growing edible plants at home is, explained Susan Campbell, an organizing member of Drawdown Montague. ....

GREENFIELD Community Action’s annual Feed the Belly Bus event collected 4,140 pounds of food and personal care items Friday that will help low income families make ends meet.
The event also brought in $2,780, which will allow for the purchase of about 13,900 more pounds of food, according to Matthew Leger-Small, the organization’s community collaborations and asset development coordinator. ....
