The third day of Des Moines Register reporter Andrea Sahouri s trial began Wednesday, a day that could bring a verdict in the case springing from her arrest in May 2020 while she covered a George Floyd protest.
On the stand Tuesday, Sahouri, who was assigned to cover the event for the Register, said she retreated to a Verizon store across an avenue from Merle Hay Mall on May 31, as the protest turned into a violent clash with police.
From her retreat, she said saw a police officer bearing down on her.
I didn t think it was a good idea to run from officers because I wasn t doing anything wrong, she testified.  I put up my hands and said I m press, I m press, and he grabbed me and pepper-sprayed me and told me, that s not what I asked. ....
