Family of teen shot, killed by deputy demands $35M in lawsuit against PCSD, Pima County

TUCSON (KVOA) - The family of a 19-year-old who was shot and killed by a Pima County Sheriff s Department deputy while holding a key fob filed a lawsuit against the department, Sheriff Chris Nanos, the deputies involved and the county on June 24.
Back on Jan. 20, 19-year-old Bradley Alexander Lewis was reportedly shot and killed by a PCSD deputy, later identified as Gilbert Caudillo, in connection to a report of an adult male attempting to break into vehicles at the 2100 block of Morning Jewel Place near La Cholla Boulevard and Overton Road.
Responding deputies reported that Lewis allegedly charged at Caudillo with a dark object, later identified as a key fob, after he fled from a traffic stop related to the vehicle break-in investigation. ....

DIGGING DEEPER: Pima County Sherriff Nanos asking for body cams

TUCSON (KVOA) - Transparency is the name of the game. Pima County Sheriff s Department said it needs hundreds of body cams to help that happen.
PCSD will be submitting a request to the Board of Supervisors for 400 to 450 body-worn cameras and tasers.
Sheriff Chris Nanos will go before the Supervisors on May 11 with a request of $1.6 million asking for the equipment.
We are the only agency in Pima County that does not have it, the sheriff said. So, it s time. I ve been working with the Board of Supervisors, Mr. Huckelberry and they agree.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Officials have released more details about an deputy-involved shooting from Jan. 20.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., deputies responded to the 2100 block of Morning Jewel Place in reference to a report of a man attempting to break into vehicles.
Deputies say the suspect had left the area before their arrival, however, they were able to get a description of the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Bradley Alexander Lewis. Responding deputies were aware Lewis had a previous weapons history. He was a wanted person for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, in which Lewis was a suspect for allegedly pointing a gun at someone. ....
