The groundbreaking at the construction site of what will soon be the Victory Village on Lakeview apartments started the day. The groundbreaking was conducted after representatives of the project’s development teams spoke and thanked the community and everyone involved in the construction process. These representatives included DP Management President Brain Reilly, North Platte Area Chamber President and CEO Gary Person, Director of Housing and Field Services Sheryl Hiatt, as well as North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher and Nebraska Lt. Advisory committee recommends $$ for Sustainable Beef by: George Lauby - Jul. 19, 2021 Top News The proposed Sustainable Beef processing plant will likely receive $1 million to help pay for the studies to launch the project. The city council will have the final say, but typically acts on the recommendations of the advisory committee of the North Platte Quality Growth Fund. The advisory committee recommended the funds Monday morning during a two-hour meeting. The city council chamber was full, accommodating about 50 people. The money will pay about 10% of an estimated $10 million cost of engineering, architecture, planning and other professional services for the proposed plant, CEO David Briggs said. ....

Police Chief Dan Hudson plans to retire in November, leaving the position he was hired to fill in 2018. In the announcement from the city, a recruitment process was said to begin immediately to find a new chief, a process that is expected to take several months. Hudson’s effective date of retirement is Nov. 2. That is three years and one month after he started the job. Comments from top city officials were all positive. “Chief Hudson has always been upbeat and enthusiastic about the city organization and most notably his force. He will be sorely missed, but I know he is looking forward to the next chapter in his life,” City Administrator Matthew Kibbon said. ....
