Two dozen trees coming down on Livonia street despite protests

View Comments
Brent Sabo has lived in his Livonia home for four years, and he says the big honey locust tree is his front yard does a lot more than create shade.
It reduces noise pollution from nearby Interstate 275 and Interstate 96, creates a pleasing neighborhood aesthetic and helps keep the air clean.
Now, it and 23 other trees on Blue Skies Street are coming down for a road and sewer repair project being done by the city. Officials say the trees cause a hazard for the work, and it s possible the construction work would damage roots to the point that the trees would die regardless. ....

Livonia council approves leash law, denies pets weather-related help

View Comments
Pet owners in Livonia will have to keep their four-legged family members on a leash when not on their own property or at a dog park.
Livonia council voted Monday to adopt a leash law and shot down a proposal that would place some weather restrictions on when homeowners can leave pets outside for an extended period.
Both were brought to council s attention by residents and nonresidents concerned about the wellbeing of dogs and, in the leash law s case, those they come in contact with. The discussion also prompted Livonia s representative in the Michigan Senate, Dayna Polehanki, to propose a pet-related bill intended to protect animals statewide during extreme weather.  ....

Livonia considers leash, extreme temperature laws for pets
Pet owners in Livonia, especially those with dogs, may soon have a few extra rules to follow.
City council is considering two ordinances: One would require animals be leashed at all times when off their owner s property and another would limit how long pets can stay outdoors in extreme cold or heat.
Both were brought to council s attention by residents concerned about the wellbeing of dogs and, in the leash law s case, those they come in contact with. Council will vote on both items at its April 26 meeting.
Weather restrictions
In late February, residents expressed concern about a homeowner who left three beagles outdoors for long periods of time when metro Detroit was experiencing a cold snap. Now, council is considering an ordinance amendment requiring owners to keep pets in a climate-controlled environment when the National Weather Service issues a weather warning, which could be on anything f ....

Sask. man says he was left in 8-day 'limbo' waiting for COVID-19 test results

SASKATOON
A Saskatchewan man says the provincial health authority left him in limbo after he didn’t get his COVID-19 test result until eight days later.
“The information coming from Sask. Health was very slow,” said Brandon McCullough. “They tell you one thing at the test site but another thing totally different happens.”
About three weeks ago McCullough’s workplace closed after an outbreak was declared. As a precaution, he and his wife went to the drive-thru testing centre in Saskatoon for COVID-19 tests.
“We were told we’d get a phone call back within 48 hours and our doctor would also be notified,” McCullough said, but neither got a call that quickly. ....
