More tertiary education opportunities for students in Wangaratta
The Morrison Government will provide funding to help establish the Country Universities Centre (CUC) Ovens Murray, creating more opportunities for local students to pursue tertiary education studies in regional Victoria.
The Australian Government will provide more than $2.5 million to establish a main campus in Wangaratta and satellite centres in Mansfield and Corryong – fulfilling an election commitment to establish a Regional University Centre in Wangaratta.
This project will be funded through the Government’s $74.2 million Regional University Centres program.
Minister for Education and Youth Alan Tudge said the CUC Ovens Murray centre would be crucial in delivering more opportunities for regional and rural students in Wangaratta. ....

Ministerial visit showcases UOW's translation research and regional role


Minister for Decentralisation and Regional Education Andrew Gee tours FIF, Molecular Horizons and TRICEP
Federal Minister for Decentralisation and Regional Education and Minister Assisting the Minister for Trade and Investment the Honourable Andrew Gee MP visited the University of Wollongong (UOW) on Wednesday 5 May, meeting with senior executive and visiting some of the University’s leading translational research facilities.
Mr Gee met with UOW Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Wellings CBE and Vice-Chancellor Designate Professor Patricia Davidson before taking tours of the Facility for Intelligent Fabrication (FIF), Molecular Horizons and the Translational Research Initiative for Cell Engineering and Printing (TRICEP).
In line with his portfolios, the minister was particularly interested in the translational aspects of research done at UOW – how research breakthroughs move from the lab and the workshop to applications in industry and healthcare to benefit the commun ....

More students will be encouraged to study in regional Australia, with the third round of the Morrison Government’s popular Destination Australia scholarship program officially open.
Regional universities and vocational education providers can now apply to offer scholarships at their institutions for up to $15,000 per student a year, undertaking a qualification ranging from a Certificate IV through to PhD.
Minister for Education and Youth, Alan Tudge said the Destination Australia Program was a great opportunity for regional providers to entice students to study and experience the benefits of regional living. ....

$5,000 support for outer regional school leavers
Outer regional and remote students who need to relocate to study can still apply for a $5,000 support payment under the Morrison-McCormack Government’s Tertiary Access Payment (TAP).
Minister for Education and Youth Alan Tudge said the payments would help students who had to relocate more than 90 minutes from their home for full-time tertiary study.
“We know it can be tough for kids in remote areas to get a tertiary qualification, simply because of where they live and the additional financial burden of relocating to study,” Minister Tudge said.
“A $5,000 helping hand will make all the difference for young Australians who are leaving home to study and will help cover costs like accommodation, groceries, bills and textbooks. ....
