Classical Musicians Prepare for a Live Concert Season

On a Wednesday in mid-May, I entered the Stowe Community Church to see the first live performance of classical music I had experienced in more than a year: Middlebury pianist Diana Fanning playing works by Maurice Ravel, Fédéric Chopin and Franz Schubert. The formidable entrance requirements included emailing an image of my COVID-19 vaccination card to Stowe Performing Arts, which hosted the concert. Audience members were led to seats spaced six feet apart. But the payoff was hearing those nuances of interpretation and volume that virtual mediums never quite capture.
As masks fall away and the weather warms, classical musicians schedules are filling up with live gigs, and festivals are reviving their summer seasons. Catch these Vermont new releases and upcoming music


Just because live music is mostly shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic doesn’t mean the music stops. Vermont musicians in 2021 have been releasing or will soon be issuing new music, from singles to mini-albums to full-length recordings. Here’s a look at some of that music ready to hit your ears.

Vermont musician Chad Hollister is known for his feel-good pop-rock tunes. The singer-songwriter brings his signature sense of positivity to a livestream concert supporting working musicians facing financial difficulties. Acoustic folk artist Ryan Montbleau, indie-pop musician Francesca Blanchard, members of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and others join Hollister for VT Sounds A Bash to Bring Back Vermont Music, broadcast from ZenBarn in Waterbury at 8 p.m. on Friday, January 22. All proceeds go to the New England Musicians Relief Fund.

Musicians Come Together for VT Sounds - A Bash to Bring Back Vermont Music

VT Sounds, A Bash to Bring Back Vermont Music, a streaming concert to keep music alive in Vermont. All proceeds will go to the
New England Musicians Relief Fund (NEMRF), an organization that provides grants to working musicians facing financial difficulties. VT Sounds will be broadcast from ZenBarn on Friday, January 22 at 8:00 PM EST. Anyone can watch the show on the Facebook and Youtube pages of Zenbarn and the NEMRF.
