Federal authorities have charged a Stamford man with fraud involving the Paycheck Protection Program, a COVID-19 financial relief initiative for businesses.
Moustapha Diakhate is facing charges of bank and wire fraud, offenses that each carry up to 30 years in prison.
Federal authorities allege Diakhate applied for PPP loans totaling almost $2.9 million, which he then used to pay for cars, paying off what was owed on a 2010 Porsche SUV, and purchasing a Mercedes and BMW. The money also went to Diakhate’s relatives, and to pay back rent that was owed on his Stamford home, authorities said.
