'We have nowhere to go' — Rohingya refugees flee relief camps in Jammu fearing detention

Srinagar:Â Hundreds of Rohingya refugees fled relief camps in Jammu Sunday, where they had been staying for almost a decade, a day after over 160 of them were detained by the Jammu and Kashmir government.
On Saturday, the J&K administration rounded the refugeesÂ and placed them in ‘holding centres’ that had been set up under the Foreigners Act in the Hiranagar sub-jail of Kathua district.
The holding centres were set up by a Home Department notification Friday under Section 3(2)e of Foreigners Act, said a senior government official, who wished to remain unnamed.
âThe refugees were not holding valid passports required as per Passports Act. The individuals were sent to holding centres in order to carry out verification process as per law,â the official told ThePrint. ....

KATHUA, Feb 22: Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma today visited Lakhanpur corridor to review the arrangements put in place for the travelers entering UT as per COVID-19 protocols.
Deputy Commissioner, Kathua Om Prakash and DC State Taxes Department Ranjeet Singh accompanied the Divisional Commissioner during the visit.
While reviewing the arrangements, Sanjeev Verma directed the Deputy Commissioner to keep extra vigil on travelers coming from the states which reported a surge in COVID-19 cases in the last few days. He directed authorities to keep adequate human resources ready to meet out any contingency. ....

Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], December 15 (ANI): Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha on Tuesday visited the Purmandal- Utterbehani area and Mansar-Surinsar twin lakes and reviewed the progress on comprehensive plans for the development of these religious and tourist destinations.
During the visit, he also issued on-the-spot instructions for speedy development of the area.
As per a statement, the LG took stock of the development project of the Purmandal-Utterbehani religious tourism circuit under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD).
He also took a detailed review of projects at Purmandal including the construction of paved path/track to the temple complex, construction of viewpoints, up-gradation of bathing ghats, installation of focus light and poles with high mast ....
