Rep. Schneider Reintroduces Bill to Extend Pre-Existing Condition Protections to Our Seniors and Disabled

Brad Schneider (IL-10) reintroduced legislation to extend pre-existing condition protections to cover Medicare beneficiaries.
Under current law, seniors and disabled are one of the last groups that can still be charged more for their pre-existing conditions. More than a quarter of seniors enrolled in Medicare Traditional are also enrolled in Medicare supplement insurance, known as Medigap. These plans are sold by private insurance to help cover deductibles, copays and other health care expenses, but are not covered by the Affordable Care Act s pre-existing conditions protections. Anyone under 65 enrolling in Medicare (for example persons with disabilities), or switching from Medicare Advantage to traditional Medicare, can be underwritten or denied a supplemental plan because they are sick. ....

Sen. Shaheen, Senators Reintroduce Legislation to Limit 2021 Out-Of-Pocket Health Care Costs

Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) reintroduced her legislation to reverse a damaging rule change made by the Trump administration that increased out-of-pocket costs for millions of Americans and made fewer Americans eligible for the Affordable Care Act s (ACA) premium tax credits, while also causing those who are eligible to receive less in tax credit support. The Trump administration changed the index by which eligibility for the ACA s premium tax credits and maximum out-of-pocket limits are set each year, resulting in a 2.5 percent increase in the maximum out-of-pocket limit in 2020 compared to where out-of-pocket limits would have been under the old indexing factor.
