Debra Rentz, soprano, is Chair of the Voice Division at Ohio University. She received her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance and Music History from Illinois State University and a Master of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Illinois. Rentz has performed extensively in opera, operetta, oratorio, recital, and orchestral concerts. She has been featured as a soloist in numerous oratorios, including Mozart’s Requiem, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and Mass in Time of War, Bach’s B Minor Mass, and Orff’s Carmina Burana. Operatic roles include Gilda in Rigoletto, Violetta in La Traviata, Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, Pamina and First Lady in Die Zauberflöte and Naiad in Ariadne auf Naxos. In addition, Debra has considerable experience performing Gilbert and Sullivan. Other operetta performances include the American stage premiere of Emmerich Kalman’s Duchess of Chicago with Chicago Light Opera and Josephine in Gilbert and Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pi ....

Pianist Tiffany Poon may not be well known to a certain generation of classical music fans, but to followers of YouTube, she’s a star. The 24-year-old pianist has a YouTube channel that’s drawn 42 million views and some 290,000 subscribers interested in watching her practice Brahms and Bach, serve up audition tips, interview other musicians, and rehearse with guests including cellists Jan Vogler and Eric Jacobsen.
By comparison, Lang Lang trails her with a mere 23 million total YouTube views and 177,000 subscribers, while Daniel Barenboim only claims 96,000.
For Poon, her audience translates into ad revenues the traditional form of income for YouTube creators plus funding from 600 supporters through Patreon crowdfunding. She also manages the non-profit platform, ....

Violinist Elizabeth Chang Releases New CD on Albany Records

Earlier this month, UMass professor of violin Elizabeth Chang  released her new CD, “ Transformations ,” on Albany Records. The release features works by Leon Kirchner; Roger Sessions; and Arnold Schoenberg; and is rooted in the cross-generational connections between Chang and these composers. The CD was produced, engineered and mastered by Adam Abeshouse, a past GRAMMY-winner of Classical Producer of the Year, with David Schneider, Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Music at Amherst College, providing the liner notes. 
While at Harvard, Chang studied under Kirchner, who in turn studied with both Sessions and Schoenberg, two of the most influential composers of the twentieth century. According to Chang, “Both Sessions and Schoenberg were pioneers in seeking a new compositional language in the post-tonal world while being deeply rooted in the Germanic tradition.” She describes Kirchner as having had a “profound artist ....
