A 76-year-old Newcastle man died Saturday when the 2002 Yamaha motorcycle he was driving south on North Newcastle Road in Newcastle apparently drifted off the shoulder and collided with a tree stump. Lincoln County Communications Center received a 911 call at 5:04 p.m. reporting the crash.

Dorothy (Dot) T. Carlton | News, Sports, Jobs - The Mining Gazette

May 13, 2021
LANSING — Dorothy T. Carlton (Dot) was a caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She went to her heavenly home on May 11, 2021, at the age of 88, in Lansing.
Dorothy was born to John and Katherine Toth in Calumet on July 31, 1932. She graduated from Calumet High School and Suomi College (now Finlandia University) in Hancock and also attended Marquette University and Wayne State University.
Dorothy was married to the love her life, Frederick “Fritz” Carlton, who preceded her in death in 1997. After his passing, she remained fiercely independent, putting finishing touches on their “camp” retirement home in Agate Harbor. She was passionate about a sense of community and life in the Copper Country. She found time to participate in community activities hosted by the Keweenaw Historical Society and the American Cancer Society while caring for aging relatives. Other places Dorothy lived were Dearborn Heights, where she taught elementary school, Escanaba and Kingsford, where she held various service industry positions while raising their family.

School district spending and keeping students safe are among issues raised by the nine candidates seeking nominations for four seats on the Norwin School Board in the May 18 primary.
The race features two incumbents, two separate teams of candidates and two candidates running independently of the others. All of the candidates have cross-filed in their bids for the nominations and all live in North Huntingdon.
Brian Carlton, 41, board president, and Raymond Kocak, 57, are the incumbents running for reelection to second terms. Two other incumbents decided not to run — Tony Corsa, who was appointed to the board in December 2019, and Donald Rhodes, who opted not to seek a fifth term.
