Commodore S. Harris Jr., longtime Chester policeman, pastor, and community activist, dies at 76

Commodore S. Harris Jr., 76, of Chester, a versatile 30-year veteran of the Chester Police Department, the former lead pastor at First Faith Baptist Church, and a relentless advocate for the young and disadvantaged in his community, died Monday, Feb. 22, of cardiac arrest at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
Mr. Harris was born and raised in Chester and spent much of his life working to make things better there for his family, friends, and neighbors.
In addition to serving in several supervisory roles, including Chief Inspector, with the Chester Police Department, he was president of the Chester branch of the NAACP, an assistant coach for the Chester High School football team, chaplain for the high school boys’ basketball team, and a volunteer for the local Police Athletic League. ....

William “Duce” Branch, assistant professor of preaching and Bible as well as undergraduate chapel coordinator for The College at Southeastern in Wake Forest, North Carolina, delivered the chapel message Feb. 24 in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. He taught from Revelation 3:7-13. Branch is also a Christian hip-hop artist known as “The Ambassador,” who has recorded independently and as a founding member of The Cross Movement.
Branch noted how God urges us to, “Rely on the loyal one in order to remain His faithful ones.”
“The loyalty of Christ is rooted, and is at the root of, our faithfulness to Christ,” he added. ....

Carol H. Raymond, 82, of Lewistown, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born July 12, 1938, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late James A. and Clara E. (Gearhart) Henry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, James A. Henry Jr. and Lawrence A. Henry, and a sister, Mary Ann Henry.
Carol is survived by her husband, Robert H. Raymond Jr., to whom she was married for 52 years. Also surviving are: sons, Robert H. Raymond III, of Yeagertown, and Timothy M. Raymond and wife, Jill, of Selinsgrove; grandchildren, Alexander and Abigail Raymond; and a brother, William E. Henry and companion, Barbara Harry, of Marana, Ariz. ....
