THE Cebu Provincial Government recently formed a task force dedicated to the promotion and public education of traditional and alternative health care.
Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia signed Executive Order 10 on Feb. 15, 2021, which pushed the creation of the task force.
Traditional and alternative health care refers to the knowledge, skills and practices of health care other than those under biomedicine which are used in the prevention, diagnosis and elimination of physical and mental disorders. ....

Women and youth were seen championing eco-farming and gardening in a recent tourism and travel trade fair held in Quezon City.
The women and youth organizers, farmers and gardeners of the International Marian Association of DAR and Urban Green Communes organized the 2021 Resilient Eco-Farm Tourism Travel and Trade Exhibit from January 29-30 at the Robinsons Nova Mall.
The 2-day theme exhibit opened spaces for discoveries on how to forward together and level-up the playing field, while keeping in mind balance in land use to maximize limited resources and community-driven profits (SDG 8). ....

Traditional medicine has long been practiced in the Philippines even before the introduction of Western and conventional medicine in the country. Indigenous communities, provinces, and regions have their own unique traditional healing practices. Although techniques vary across localities, one commonality is the use of herbs and plants which are believed to have medicinal effects.
Medicinal plants from the Philippines have since made significant inroads in the global market because of the increasing demand for organic and natural health products especially in developed countries. A report from the Board of Investments shows that exports of medicinal plants and food grew from 13% in 2009 to 111% in 2011. The World Health Organization forecasts that the global health market will be worth $5 trillion by 2050. ....

BARANGAY health workers and barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) in Cebu Province will undergo training on traditional and alternative medicine next year.
Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia announced this during the distribution of barangay workers’ cash incentives in the northern town of Liloan in the third week of December 2021.
“So mga barangay health workers, BNS, dako kaayo mo’g papel niini (Barangay health workers play a crucial role). Ibalik nato ang kinaraang paagi nga karon nakita nato epektibo batok niining Covid-19 og sa bisan unsa’ng sakit (Let’s go back to the old ways, which have proven effective, especially in the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 and other ailments),” she said. ....
