A PARISH councillor trying to stop a retirement village from being built in Sonning Common has had his own book used as evidence against him by the developer.
Tom Fort, a former BBC journalist and an author, spoke against Inspired Villages’ proposal for 133 flats in Blounts Court Road at a planning inquiry.
The hearing comes after the company appealed against a decision by South Oxfordshire District Council to refuse planning permission.
Councillor Fort told the inquiry that he opposes the development due to the impact it would have on the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as the village’s neighbourhood plan. ....

FIVE women who helped feed NHS staff during the pandemic are to mark their achievement by producing a cook book.
Jocelyn Lynch, Sue Remenyi, Jane Mather, Kristina Stitt and Sarah Wilkinson, who all live in Kidmore End, helped to deliver more than 1,700 homemade meals for staff working in the intensive care unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.
The initiative started in January when an anaesthetist at the hospital, who also lives in the village, appealed for help via the village’s WhatsApp group.
More than 40 villagers got involved by helping with cooking, delivering and fundraising. ....

A SONGWRITER from Peppard is celebrating having a worldwide hit and says it was all down to… peanut sauce.
James Bell, a musician whose professional name is Yami, wrote
The Business by Tiesto, an international DJ and record producer.
It has reached No 4 in the UK singles chart and has hit the top spot in nine other countries, including Hungary, the Czech Republic and Tiesto’s native Netherlands.
Mr Bell, 28, also sings on the house music track, which he
co-wrote with three other people.
He has a publishing deal with BMG, a music company based in Berlin, which sold it to Tiesto. ....

SONNING Common Parish Council is to spend £30,000 on legal representation at an inquiry into a development it opposes.
Inspired Villages  appealed after being refused planning permission for a new retirement village in Blounts Court Road, opposite the Johnson Matthey Technology Centre.
Its application was rejected by South Oxfordshire District Council, the planning authority, in June.
The appeal will be heard at an inquiry in front of a planning inspector in April. 
The parish council opposes the plans on the grounds that the development would be “excessive and inappropriate” and contrary to the village’s neighbourhood plan.  ....
