CLINTON COUNTY, Ohio (FOX19) - A southern Ohio man convicted of kidnapping his neighbor and placing her in a pit was released from prison and will get a new trial.
Dennis Dunn, 49, was sentenced in 2019 to seven years in prison after being found guilty of kidnapping Jennifer Elliott.
Dunn maintains his rights were violated due to “ineffective assistance of trial counsel” according to documents filed with the Clinton County Court of Common Pleas. ....

Blanchester man convicted of 2017 kidnapping to get retrial

WILMINGTON A Blanchester man found guilty of kidnapping his neighbor and placing her in a pit in 2017 has been granted a release from prison pending a retrial.
Dennis Dunn, 49, was granted a $10,000 signature recognizance bond by Clinton County Common Pleas Judge John W. “Tim” Rudduck while awaiting a new trial date.
This comes after the court agreed to relieve Dunn’s previous attorney, James Hartke, of his duties and have evidence in the trial stricken from the record in February. A retrial date has not been scheduled as of now.
Court documents indicated Hartke did not provide property access of evidence to the prosecution. ....

The following information comes from incident reports provided by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office. All those arrested are presumed innocent until possibly found guilty in court.
The sheriff’s office recently processed these reports:
• At 5:21 a.m. on May 1, deputies responded to a domestic violence incident occurring at a gas station on U.S. 68 North in Liberty Township. According to the report, a 29-year-old Hamilton female and her boyfriend, a 42-year-old Blanchester male, got into a verbal argument and the male threw a box at his girlfriend. No injuries were reported and suspected drugs were in use. No further details were listed. ....

School Board in Southwest Ohio District Votes Students and Staff Can Quit Wearing Masks

Blanchester is located about 40 miles northeast of Cincinnati.
The Board of Education for a southwest Ohio school district has voted to defy the state’s mask mandate.
Blanchester Public Schools is located in rural Clinton County. The school board there has voted that its students and staff can immediately go without masks when they are outdoors or on buses, as long as the windows are opened a little bit.
On June 1st, they’ll become the first Ohio district to decide that students and staff can quit wearing masks indoors. Ohio Education Association President Scott DiMauro says this seems illegal. And he says he s puzzled as to why the school board would want to shed masks right now anyway. ....
