At least a third of the deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Miami County have occurred among inmates at the state prison in the county or residents in one of the county’s nursing homes.
State data show that, as of Tuesday, 11 inmates have died at Miami Correctional Facility since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Of those, five deaths are listed as “presumed” COVID-19 deaths, and six are listed as “confirmed.”
At the Miller’s Merry Manor Peru location, a local nursing home, nine residents have died. Hickory Creek Peru and Blair Ridge Health Campus have also seen deaths among residents attributed to the virus. State data, provided by the Indiana State Department of Health, show that each of those locations have seen fewer than five deaths each. For privacy reasons the state withholds the exact number when the total is below five. ....
