Here are ELL’s top places to visit this summer in Lewisham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Croydon that you may not have known about before lockdown was introduced last year.
 For those sceptical of leaving the house and worried about social distancing, there is something for everyone. 
Lewisham 
The Horniman Museum and Gardens, is set to re-open at the end of this month, located in Forest Hill. The museum is known for displays of natural history and musical instruments, along with its collection of taxidermy aid animals.  ....

Brick Lane Beigel Bake launches London delivery service

A famous 24-hour bagel bakery in Brick Lane is coming back with a vengeance after lockdown by launching its own delivery service across London. 
An app has been set up and online orders taken by Beigel Bake to celebrate businesses reopening. 
The shop at the Bethnal Green end of The Lane has been the haunt of night-time cabbies for almost half a century for its traditional beigels - a different spelling for bagel. 
Staff work round-the-clock at the bagel bakery ....

Restaurants and bars that had to close because of the pandemic began giving out their leftover food for free to NHS workers who were spending all their hours at hospitals caring for the sick. Liam Tolan and David Burgess, who ran Fugitive Motel bar and kitchen in Bethnal Green, gave away food boxes of fresh fruit, vegetables and bread after posting a notice on social media. They took the rest to staff at the Royal London Hospital.  ....

But even from the get-go, 2020 was a busy one.
The son of a bagel tycoon admitted to killing his mother and sister, who were stabbed to death in 2017 at the £2.5 million family home in Golders Green.
Joshua Cohen worked at the family-owned Beigel Bake bakery in Brick Lane but left after issues with customers.
On the evening of August 11 2017, he attacked his widowed mother and sister in the basement laundry room after Mrs Cohen let him into the house.
Mrs Cohen suffered 13 stab wounds and her daughter was stabbed in the neck, severing her carotid artery.
Alysha Allen, a deaf teacher who uses sign language and lip reading to teach and engage Brimsdown Primary School in Enfield, has been recognised for her work as she was presented with the Special Contribution Award at the Teacher of the Year ceremony, hosted by Maths Hub London North East, a programme involving around 600 schools which helps to lead improvement in mathematics. ....
