The great spirit of volunteerism in Kilkenny is set to grow with the launch of the Kilkenny Volunteer Centre.
A new centre will link those in Kilkenny who would like to volunteer their time with the groups and organisations that need the support.
The Kilkenny Volunteer Centre is part of a national structure of 29 centres affiliated to Volunteer Ireland, and a registered charity.
Officially launching the new centre and website, Salena Grace, manager of the centre, told Kilkenny councillors that the centre will keep a database of volunteering vacancies that people can see on their website, and they can offer advice and support to people who want to volunteer. ....

Walking tracks around the county have been a “godsend” during lockdown, says one local councillor.
Cllr Peter Chap Cleere said a huge amount of walking tracks have been funded under the Community Cultural Grant and the feedback he has gotten is that they have been a “godsend for so many, a lifesaver in challenging times.”
He said they have made a difference.
Director of Services Mary Mulholland acknowledged that a lot of policy and funding are aimed at bigger population centres but Covid has shown that many can’t travel significant distances and smaller communities need their own amenities. The County Council acknowledges that and acknowledges the importance of amenities. ....

Music Generation is one of the positive stories of 2020 - a group of people who refused to allow a pandemic hamper their success.
In November young people from Music Generation Kilkenny release their debut single titled Feel The Victory.
Following an intensive virtual song-writing camp, the young people of Music Generation Kilkenny wrote, performed and recorded Feel The Victory at the DRUM Youth Centre, in partnership with Foróige.
Written during lockdown by the talented young people of Music Generation Kilkenny, the video was produced and shot in Kilkenny city. ....
