New York, NY Stuyvesant Town residents joined with elected officials and the Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village Tenants Association to oppose the construction of two new fuel plants within the confines of the building complex because they say they will emit greenhouse gases.
According to the tenant’s association, in 2018 the management of Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village (STPCV) announced its intention to build a combined heat and power (CHP) plant between 245 and 271 Avenue C to produce steam for 24 buildings. The electricity produced, they note, would not benefit the tenants at Stuyvesant Town because STPCV owners would sell the electricity back to Con Edison’s grid. ....
