EU inaugurates REACH Project office in Wa

The European Union (EU) has inauguratedan office for the Resilient Against Climate Change (REACH) Project inWato serve as headquarters for all project activitiesin the Upper West and North East Regions, as well as parts of the SavannahRegion, where project activities are being implemented.
The office, which was located on the premises of the Department of Agriculture, was jointly opened by the Country Director ofGerman Development Co-operation (GIZ-Ghana), Mrs. Regina Bauerochse Barbosa, and the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih.
At an event, the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation, Mr. Pieter Smidt Van Gelder, mentioned that theedifice was one of the necessary conditions needed for the smooth implementation of the REACH project and that it would enhance performance of staff on the project. ....

Deputy Head Of EU Mission Lauds Ghanaian Women

Mr Pieter Smidt Van Gelder, the Deputy Head of Mission of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Ghana, has lauded Ghanaian women for their continued sacrifices and efforts towards Ghana’s socio-economic development.
He said Ghana did not lack competent women, citing Mrs Joyce Adeline Bamford-Addo, first woman Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana and first woman Speaker of Parliament.
Others are: Madam Sophia Akuffo, Chief Justice of Ghana (2017-2019) and Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, an academic icon and first woman to hold the position of Vice Chancellor in Ghana, before becoming a politician, and first Vice Presidential Candidate for one of the main political parties in Ghana. ....

Contractors Who Do Shoddy Work To Pay More For Maintenance – Roads Minister Warns

Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako Attah has warned contractors to desist from engaging in shoddy work or risk paying more for maintaining the roads.
He said the ministry has introduced a new road concept known as the Output and Performance-Based Contract (OPBRC) aimed at increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of road asset management and maintenance.
Mr Amoako-Attah gave the warning at the groundbreaking ceremony of the feeder roads component of the European Union Ghana Agricultural Programme at Kpongu in the Wa municipality of the Upper West Region.
One major challenge faced by farmers in the Upper West Region is post-harvest loss. Several thousands of tons of farm produce go to waste at farms due to the bumpy and deplorable roads in the region. ....

EU, GoG break ground for rehabilitation and maintenance of feeder roads in UWR

The Government of Ghana, with support from the European Union (EU) under its Ghana Agricultural Programme (EU-GAP), on Tuesday, cut sod for the rehabilitation and maintenance of feeder and farm access roads in the Upper West Region.
The 35 million Euro 670.2 kilometers road rehabilitation project is part of a 145 million Euros EU-GAP project, and expected to be completed within the first 24 months, with performance based maintenance to be done for the next 18 months of completion.
The EU-GAP, a three component project, was aimed at developing sustainable and resilient agricultural system in the Upper West Region. ....
