Montana Wildfire Update For July 16, 2021


The Beaverhead County Sheriff’s office says there was an emergency evacuation for an additional 38 homes yesterday evening along the Pioneer Byway due to the Alder Creek Fire. The evacuations will remain in place through the weekend. The fire is now burning more than 3,400 acres in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest about 7 miles west of the Wise River. It is 0 percent contained.
The Northern Rockies Coordination Center reports 16 new fire starts in Montana on Thursday, prompting moderate initial attacks by federal, state and local firefighting resources. Fire crews controlled or contained four of those starts on Thursday, while the rest are still burning. Seventy-five percent of the fires are an acre or less in size. ....

According to the Beaverhead County Sheriff s Office Facebook page, all of Alder Creek will be evacuated today - 17 houses in total.
According to officials, evacuation is necessary in order to protect the lives of area occupants and emergency personnel responding to the incident. Law Enforcement personnel is currently attempting to convey this order/request to citizens door to door.

Montana Wildfire Update For July 15, 2021


The Beaverhead County Sheriff’s Office has issued an evacuation order for all 17 houses in the Alder Creek area as a nearby wildfire burns south of highway 43 and the Wise River. As of Wednesday afternoon, the Alder Creek Fire is burning more than 2,400 acres in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. Stage II fire restrictions will go into effect Saturday on City of Missoula open space and conservation lands.
Critical Fire Conditions
The National Weather Service has a red flag warning in effect until 9 p.m. for southwest and central Montana. Gusty winds up to 30 miles an hour, with low humidity combined with scattered wet and dry thunderstorm lightning strikes will create critical fire conditions. ....

Alder Creek Fire and Goose Fire expected to grow

The Alder Creek Fire west of Wise River became a Type 1 wildland fire this week based on its complexity and potential to become a large fire and threaten structures.
Its likelihood to expand comes during a time when resources across the West for fighting wildfires are thinner than a sapling lodgepole.
The Southern Area Blue Team, a Type 1 Incident Management Team, assumed control Tuesday of the Alder Creek and Trail Creek fires.
Todd Schroeder, a public information officer for the Southern Area Blue Team, was in Wise River Wednesday morning. He said the Alder Creek fire’s complexity reflects a host of factors. ....
