Families in Asia's financial hub of Hong Kong are suffering isolation and trauma after strict coronavirus rules have led to babies being separated from parents and those with newborns herded into tiny quarantine quarters for up to 14 days. Hong Kong authorities have ordered that anyone testing positive for the virus must go to hospital, including babies, while all their close contacts, even those who test negative, are sent to makeshift quarantine camps. Hong Kong's government told Reuters late on Monday that for COVID-19 cases involving children, the public hospital will, "under special circumstances, decide whether or not their parents can stay with the children in hospital". ....

DOHA: With an aim to enhance the National Center for Early Detection of Hearing Loss (NPEDHL), screening services of newborns has been expanded to the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) said a senior official.
Also at present babies are screened for hearing once instead of the previous practice of two screenings, said National Lead of Health and well-being for people with Special Needs, Dr. Khalid A.Hadi.
“In place of testing the babies twice; first after birth before hospital discharge and second at 2 to 3 months of age with one physiological test (OAE), it has been changed to test once at 2 to 3 months of age with the first vaccination with two physiological tests (OAE and AABR),” said Dr Hadi. ....

COVID antibodies are transferred from pregnant women to their babies | News

The findings of a recent study suggested that antibodies that help in guarding against the COVID-19 virus are transferred from mothers to their babies while in the womb. This discovery, published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology’, adds to growing evidence that suggests that pregnant women who generate protective antibodies after contracting the coronavirus often convey some of that natural immunity to their fetuses. The findings also lend support to the idea that vaccinating mothers-to-be may also have benefits for their newborns. All of the women had COVID-19 antibodies in their blood, indicating that they had contracted the virus at some point even though 58 per cent of those women had no symptoms. Furthermore, while antibodies were detected in both symptomatic and asymptomatic women, the researchers observed that the concentration of antibodies was significantly higher in symptomatic women.
