Denton Polic Officers injured in traffic accident while writing a speeding ticket

Two Denton Police officers were struck Monday afternoon by another vehicle while they were sitting in their patrol car along Business 85 South completing the paperwork for a traffic citation, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The officers, Cpl. J. Allen and Cpl. R. Basinger, received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported for treatment to Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center, said Master Trooper Ned Moultrie. Denton Police Chief M. Hicks said Monday night that Allen and Basinger have been released from the hospital.
The accident occurred at 1:03 p.m.
According to the report, the officers had stopped at 2017 Nissan driven by Tokunba Anumuda of High Point for allegedly speeding. The officers were seated in their patrol vehicle behind Anumuda s Nissan writing the citation when a 2016 Freightliner van driven by James Thurmond Miller of Wards, South Carolina, struck the rear of the Denton patrol car, pushing it forward into the rear ....

The two hospitals in Davidson County have proven they are leaps and bounds ahead when it comes to the safety and welfare of their patients.
Wake Forest Baptist Health - Lexington Medical Center and Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center were both awarded an “A” grade in safety and health care quality by The Leapfrog Group.

Davidson County ERs grappled with run of opioid overdoses in 2020

Last year, as Davidson County grappled with a global pandemic, it also faced another health crisis  the opioid epidemic.
Health care professionals at the county’s two emergency rooms dealt with an increasing number of people who headed to the ER for overdosing on opioids. But last year proved to be much different than years past. The number of overdose visits to the county’s ERs reached its highest in a decade, according to data reported by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
In Davidson County, 196 people were recorded to have visited the county’s two emergency rooms. That’s 16 people overdosing per month, or one person every other day. ....
