Town of Clarkstown and District Attorney Hold DWI Accident Scene Demonstration

After two recent teenage drunk driving related deaths, several departments came together to host an event intended to raise awareness of the dangers of driving while intoxicated (DWI) and distracted. The Clarkstown Police Department, New City Fire Department, New City Ambulance Corp, STAT Med Evac, Higgins Funeral Home, and Clarkstown Town Justice David Ascher, presented a mock DWI accident scene at Zukor Park on Wednesday.
“Our communities are still reeling from these losses,” said Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann. “We have to learn from them.”

On April 24, Suffern High School student Jacqueline Zangrilli, 16, died in a DWI crash on Route 202. The driver and three other passengers were seriously injured, and the driver is facing charges, including vehicular manslaughter. Just 12 days later, Clarkstown High School North student Vladyslav Hvalyk, 16, was killed in a drunk driving crash in New City that left another studen ....

NEW CITY One teen has died and another has been jailed after a 3-car crash at 10:50 p.m. Thursday on Congers Road, Clarkstown police said.
A 16-year-old boy died of his injuries Friday afternoon, police said. A 17-year-old girl remains in serious condition.
Both were passengers in a black Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Alan Mendoza, police said.

Two Cats Die, Two Others Rescued After House Fire Breaks Out In New City

Two cats were killed, and another two saved after a house fire that left a family homeless in Rockland County.
The fire started around 5:20 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 192 Strawtown Road, in New City, said Clarkstown Police Officer Norman Peters.
First responding police and firefighters from the New City Fire Department, found the single-family home was engulfed in flames, Peters said.
The two adult residents were located outside the home, uninjured as officers arrived. Four of the family s five cats were retrieved from the home.
New City firefighters were able to save two, but two died from exposure to the flames and smoke. ....
