Connecticut Air & Space Center Opening Annex In Stratford

STRATFORD, CT — The Connecticut Air & Space Center announced Tuesday that a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place to celebrate the opening of its annex for the public display of historic military and civilian aircraft restored by the Center.
The ceremony will take place at 12 noon on Thursday, May 27, at 225B Main St. in Stratford.
Stratford Mayor Laura R. Hoydick will be among those addressing the audience.

"The opening of this annex will be yet another milestone for the Center regarding public awareness of the history in aviation accomplishments during the past century," said Mark Corvino, president of the Center. He noted the restoration of these historic aircraft will help keep alive the spirit and bravery of the pilots who flew them into harm's way.

LONG ISLAND, NY – Tuesday marks one year since George Floyd died after Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chavin pressed a knee to his neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds. One year since Floyd lay on the ground crying out for his mama. One year since the world watched a video that sparked a piercing cry for change.
In the months that followed, protests were organized across Long Island that brought together hundreds who lay down on sleepy Main Streets, hands behind their backs, recreating those haunting nine minutes and 29 seconds as they cried out, "No justice, no peace," and "Mama, I can't breathe!"

GILFORD, NH — Police in Gilford announced on Monday that they have a warrant out for the arrest of a notorious goth-metal musician who is wanted on two simple assault charges in the Granite State.
The charges against Brian Hugh Warner, 52, who is known by the performance name Marilyn Manson, stem from a performance at the Bank of NH Pavilion in Gilford on Aug. 18, 2019.
Anthony Bean Burpee, the chief of police in Gilford, said the incidents occurred while he was performing.

Farmington Resident Enters Plea In $100,000-Plus Bank Fraud Case

FARMINGTON, CT — A Farmington woman has entered a guilty plea in federal case involving a $103,000 bank embezzlement.
Leonard C Boyle, Acting United States attorney for the District of Connecticut, and David Sundberg, special agent in charge of the New Haven Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, announced Tuesday that Lee Blanchette, 58, of Farmington, waived her right to be indicted and pleaded guilty today before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer in New Haven to one count of bank fraud.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Blanchette was employed by Bank of America as a relationship manager. As a relationship manager, Blanchette had the authority to cause temporary ATM cards to be activated and assigned to a customer's account.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — A local middle school recently earned third place in a national classroom competition that challenged students to solve society's most pressing problems. Larchmont Charter school placed third place in the "Solve Together: Tomorrow's Leaders Tackling Today's Challenges" contest, sponsored by the nonprofit American Student Assistance.
A team of seventh graders from Larchmont Charter School presented a plan to address climate change by focusing on energy sources such as wind turbines, hydrokinetic energy and solar panels. Middle school teacher Hannah Choi from Larchmont Charter School received the $1,000 ASA Solve Together Educator Award, for her work in teaching students about the economic ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic.

MARIETTA, OH — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has reached a settlement with the Census Bureau. He had been planning to sue the U.S. Census Bureau because they had been planning on delaying the release of population data until September 30. Federal law states that they had until March 31 to turn over the data, but the Census Bureau said the data release had to be delayed because of COVID-19.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Police arrested an Anaheim man in connection with an attack on Jewish diners outside a Beverly Grove area restaurant by a caravan of demonstrators waving Palestinian flags.
Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michel Moore announced the Monday night arrest of the 35-year-old Anaheim man suspected in the attack. The suspect, whose name was not immediately released was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, "with hate crime enhancements being sought," Moore told the Police Commission Tuesday.
