Comal Countyâs active COVID-19 case count continued its decline on Tuesday, with health officials adding 19 recoveries from the disease and 14 additional cases. Of the new cases, 11 are new and three are backlogged being added to the countyâs data. Seven are confirmed and the other seven are probable. The county now has 189 active cases of COVID-19 with 10 of those patients hospitalized. Thatâs a steep drop from early May when health officials were reporting 350 active cases. Over the first part of the year, Comal County health officials have administered thousands of COVID-19 vaccines to area residents through mass clinics at the New Braunfels Civic Center. ....
Comal Countyâs COVID death toll climbed by three on Friday as officials announced the deaths of two residents in mid-March and a third death in early April. All three deaths were recorded in San Antonio hospitals and included a New Braunfels woman in her 50s who died on March 12, a Spring Branch woman in her 60s who died on March 16 and a Garden Ridge man in his 70s who died on April 4. The county has added four deaths to its COVID data this week, with the death toll since the pandemic arrived last March now standing at 316. Health officials also added four new cases of COVID to the data, including one confirmed case and three probable cases, as well as 15 additional recoveries. ....
The New Braunfels ISD Education Foundation says it s hard at work rescheduling events because of the pandemic and raising money for the district and community it appreciates so much. Plans have changed for several events, such as the Taste of the Town, the Surprise Grant Accolade Parade and Distinguished Alumni dinner ceremony. Although events were shuffled around, NBISD Education Foundation executive director Reagan Parks said she is hopeful that future events will return to normal. â¨âWe had to think outside the box, thatâs why we are having the Taste of the Town remix,â Parks said. âBut weâre excited for February 2022 to go back to our tradition of Taste of the Town where we can all gather socially, eating and drinking and socializing together and tasting some of the delicious food the local restaurants and local participants had provided to us as well as raising money for the teachers and students of the district.â ....
The city of New Braunfels established a warming center Wednesday afternoon. Continued winter weather combined with ongoing electric outages prompted the city officials to open the New Braunfels Civic and Convention Center, located at 375 S. Castell Ave., for those without power, stranded motorists and anyone in need of electricity. The warming center was expected to open at 4 p.m. and is accessible to anyone, free of charge, and would remain operational until winter weather improves and rotating power outages are no longer necessary. However, city officials said space would be limited due to COVID-19 protocols. The entrance to the warming center will be from the Castell Avenue side of the facility. ....
