NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) Information on an impending settlement in a class-action lawsuit over lead poisoning in New Haven’s children is expected to be released Monday.
The New Haven Register reports the parties are scheduled to give details on a settlement in the lawsuit filed two years ago by the New Haven Legal Assistance Association..
Multiple court rulings have held that the city had failed to follow its own ordinance on inspections required since at least 2012.
A judge in 2019 defined the class as children living New Haven who showed elevated levels of lead in their blood since Nov. 1, 2018 while under the age of 6. The class doesn t include children living in properties owned by the New Haven Housing Authority, which has similar inspection rules under federal jurisdiction, the newspaper reported. ....

Housing reform bills spark clashes over race, local authority

Connecticut’s festering divide over affordable housing spilled into open clashes on Thursday as the General Assembly invited comments on reforms such as expanding urban housing authorities into surrounding towns and encouraging multi-family housing in predominatly white suburbs.
