COVID Cases At 2 Fredericton Schools


The Anglophone West School District announced Wednesday evening that there are two positive cases at
Nashwaaksis Middle School, both located on the city’s north side.
“We are working with Public Health officials to identify any students and school personnel who may have been in contact with the cases,” David McTimoney, superintendent of the school district, said in a letter to parents.
Both schools are closed Thursday for contact tracing. Nashwaaksis Middle is expected to reopen Friday students at Leo Hayes will learn online from home.
The district also announced a possible COVID-19 exposure at
New Maryland Elementary School, just outside of Fredericton. The school remains open Thursday. ....

TORONTO, Jan. 18, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) While COVID-19 has created significant challenges for schools, it hasn’t stopped students, campuses, and educators from stepping up to help wildlife. To support their efforts and help bring projects to life, World Wildlife Fund Canada is awarding Go Wild School Grants of $500-$1,000 to 100 schools at the K-12 level and 10 grants to post-secondary students and campuses.
Thanks to Walmart Canada’s generous support of WWF-Canada’s Living Planet @ School program, twice as many grants are being awarded than in previous years, doubling the benefits for habitats and wildlife.   ....

N.B. reports 19 new cases of COVID-19; cases identified at two schools and nine Dollarama stores closed

New Brunswick announced 19 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. Seven previously reported cases are now considered recovered, increasing the number of active cases in the province to 230, the largest number of active cases in the province since the pandemic began.
On Wednesday, New Brunswick Health reported one case in Zone 1 (Moncton region), five cases in Zone 2 (Saint John region), three cases in Zone 3 (Fredericton region), eight cases in Zone 4 (Edmundston region), one case in Zone 5 (Campbellton region), and one case in Zone 6 (Bathurst region)
The new case in Zone 1 (Moncton) involves:
An individual in their 50s

Two long-term care residents die in Saint John, N.B.; 17 new COVID-19 cases

New Brunswick health is reporting two deaths caused by COVID-19 in residents of a Saint John long-term care facility.
The deaths involve two residents of Lily Court, of Parkland Saint John s Tucker Hall, who died Tuesday morning as a result of underlying complications including COVID-19. One of the residents was in their 80s and one in their 70s.
Lily Court is one of the neighbourhoods inside  Tucker Hall, which is where Nancy Cogger s 93-year-old father lives.
To not be able to do anything to keep your parent safe, it s devastating, said Cogger. I think we need to move to the next stage and say, how do we stop the spread of this disease through this home, and it s through the vaccine. ....
