Road work begins on I-97

Construction on Illinois 97 from Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site to the Sangamon County line begins today, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The work will reduce I-97 to one lane at times, with signs, flaggers and barricades providing traffic control. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra time for travel in the area or use alternate route.
The project, funded by the Rebuild Illinois program, includes resurfacing, guardrail improvement and shoulder upgrades. The work is expected to be completed by mid-July.
Over the next six years, IDOT plans to improve more than 3,300 miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. ....
