Trinchero Family Estates (TFE) is performing trials this year in Lodi area vineyards with a new smart guided sprayer control technology designed to increase spray application efficiency, reduce chemical use, and save growers spraying costs. This technology was developed by U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) scientists and engineers over a decade of research and field testing funded through the Specialty Crops Research Initiative. Systems are now being used in commercial agricultural applications nationwide. TFE is one of the first California vineyards to use the system and hosted the first grower field demonstration in a California vineyard May 2 ....

Smart-Apply Intelligent Spray Control System to be sold through John Deere dealerships

Through an allied distribution agreement with Smart Guided Systems, John Deere dealers will sell and support the Smart-Apply Intelligent Control System in the U.S., Canada, and Australia. The system reduces the potential for chemical drift and helps decrease the amount of product being applied.
Smart-Apply, which uses LiDAR, is compatible with John Deere tractors used in high value crop applications. It is an add-on kit for air-blast sprayers towed behind a John Deere tractor.
“We are excited to offer this innovative precision spraying solution to our customers for use with their John Deere tractors in high value crop applications such as fruit and tree nut orchards, nurseries, and vineyards,” says Greg Christensen, Go-To-Market Manager for John Deere. “The Smart-Apply system will help ensure that only the canopy gets sprayed and automatically adjusts spray volume based on plant density per nozzle zone.
