Pandemic creativity in the restaurant industry has been a wonder to behold. All those outdoor tables and benches with planters appeared. They looked tasteful, you know? Like if a shop class had built Paris. But then stupid fall came out of nowhere. So we wheeled out these slick heaters and tried warming up the outside. It was great. You felt like an unsold rotisserie chicken.
And you felt free. Because America is about freedom. The government gave restaurants the freedom to figure out how to stay in business through a pandemic all by themselves. That meant the freedom to have indoor dining outside and call it outdoor dining. Restaurants gave patrons the freedom to contract a deadly disease inside a large plastic bubble. Mass Biz Easing Due To Positive Virus Trends
Shops, restaurants, gyms and other businesses will be able to welcome more patrons into their spaces starting Monday after Gov. Charlie Baker on Thursday announced he’ll ease the capacity restrictions he imposed in hopes of tamping down COVID-19 spread during the holiday season.
Restaurants, close-contact personal services, movie theaters, casinos, office spaces, places of worship, retailers, driving and flight schools, libraries, arcades, fitness centers and museums have all been operating at a maximum capacity of 25 percent since Dec. 26.
Citing positive trends in COVID-19 data since the start of 2021, Baker said those limits will increase to 40 percent at 5 a.m. Monday. For businesses without a recorded capacity allowance, the limit will rise from five people per 1,000 feet to eight people per 1,000 feet. ....

Diners at Sazio in Hastings, were treated to a concert experience of their own on Friday night when a group of happy patrons sang their praises for the pasta bar - literally.
Known as a mihi tenei ki nga ringawera, the song is a traditional Māori way of thanking hosts for their hospitality and delighted those in attendance, including Breakfast TV host Matty Mclean who shared the video on Twitter. ....
