What it's like to be diagnosed with cancer in prison

A cancer diagnosis can strike at any time and in any setting - including in prison.
Each year, an estimated 300 inmates in New South Wales will be diagnosed with the disease while in custody, adding complex layers of challenges to what is already a life-changing experience.

MACMILLAN fundraisers in Ilkley are urging people to support a service which is proving to be a lifeline to cancer patients and their families.
Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be a traumatic and frightening experience at any time and the coronavirus pandemic is bringing more added worry and uncertainty. Some people are seeing their treatment changed, postponed or even cancelled and may be upset, scared and lonely. The Macmillan Support Line – 0808 808 0000 - open from 8am to 8pm, 365 days a year - is providing a lifeline now to patients, carers and families, with concerns about cancer and coronavirus.
It costs around £138,000 to fund the Cancer Nurse Specialist team on the support line for one month, during which time they will respond to thousands of calls. ....
