When Gov. Eric Holcomb and Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch were sworn in for their second terms in January, COVID-19 vaccinations were just materializing.
So, a socially distanced oath occurred with only 50 people in attendance rather than thousands.
No balloons and certainly no hugging.
Six months later and the Holcomb for Indiana campaign is gearing up to host a concert and black-tie inaugural gala.
“These events aren t just to celebrate our governor and lieutenant governor, this is a way for us to bring together the entire Holcomb-Crouch team that worked so hard to make the governor s historic reelection happen and to celebrate all Hoosiers for their sacrifice and resilience during the global pandemic,” campaign manager Kyle Hupfer said. “These events will be a great opportunity to remember our shared victories and reaffirm our commitment to helping Governor Holcomb continue building One Indiana for All.” ....

Cancer Services of NE Indiana holding tribute dinner

FORT WAYNE â Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana is holding a tribute dinner on Sept. 1 to honor people touched in some way by cancer as well as the caregivers and physicians in the community.
The dinner is planned for 6 p.m. at the Parkview Mirro Center for Research and Innovation, 10622 Parkview Plaza Drive, Fort Wayne.
Tickets are $100, which includes one tribute. For $25 only you can submit a tribute only. It is also $25 to purchase additional tributes.
Michelle Chambers will be the keynote speaker for the evening. The Champion of Hope award recipient will also be named at the event.
Ticket purchases includes a tribute, which is a heartfelt message listed in the program and onscreen during the event. Tributes are designed to celebrate cancer survivors, a caregiver, physician or beloved family member or friend who has passed. ....

Little John's Lemonade Stand enters its final year

LAKE GAGE â Itâs the end of an era this year as Grace Johnson and Emily McCrea are set to host the last Little Johnâs Lemonade Stand on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 6350 W. Orland Road, Angola.
The pair, best friends for more than a decade, are going into high school this fall at Prairie Heights High School and arenât letting the end of the stand be the end of their philanthropic endeavors.
âWe both hope to do other volunteer work since weâll no longer be doing the lemonade stand,â said McCrea.
The stand was started in 2012 in honor of their friend John Stukey Jr., who was also Emilyâs cousin, who died as a child from cancer. ....

25th annual 'Swing for Cancer' raises record amount

With 104 golfers participating, more than $18,000 was raised and donations are still coming in.
Members of the Cobblestone Ladies League board organizing the event were Pat Treesh, Helen Cochard, Linda Moses, Phyllis Weber, Lin Swogger and Brenda Rummel.
The annual event helps to support Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
Among the seven volunteers was Ellyne Sollenberger of Kendallville who, in March 2022, will be a 20-year breast cancer survivor. She has volunteered as a âhole watcherâ since 2011; the main task of a âhole watcherâ is to verify a hole-in-one.
Last year the Cobblestone ladies ran a virtual golf outing. âThis (2021) total is the highest total to date with the exception of 2020,â Brenda Rummel said. âEvery year we have earned more money than the previous year.â ....
