For years, residents have come to know Dorchesterâs Fields Corner as a place where newcomers can find a home. From Vietnamese to Haitian Creole to Spanish to Portuguese, signs in the store windows and chatter on the street reflect a kaleidoscopic neighborhood like few others in Boston.
Yet a few years ago, when the Boston Planning & Development Agency launched a process that could reshape this part of Dorchester, it hung signs inviting people to public meetings in just one language: English. ....

Fields Corner non-profits join forces in services push

A coalition of eight existing non-profit organizations based in Fields Corner plan to streamline and better coordinate their services, thanks a funding boost from Boston Children’s Hospital. The new group Fields Corner Crossroads hopes to roll out its network after concluding a year-long planning process and transitioning into a three year implementation phase.
Michelle Nadow, president and CEO of DotHouse, Lisette Le, Executive Director of VietAID, and Candice Gartley, Executive Director of All Dorchester Sports and Leadership (ADSL), discussed their vision for the collaborative with the Reporter this week. ....

Dot, Mattapan non-profits get share of Resiliency Fund grants

Mayor Walsh and the Boston Resiliency Fund Steering Committee last week announced the Boston Resiliency Fund’s 28th and final funding round, totaling $3.85 million for 62 nonprofits across Boston, including 14 based in Dorchester and Mattapan.
The organizations in this round of funding work to ensure access to food and other basic needs for Boston residents and to promote public health in the city through community-based outreach and engagement.
Since its launch in March of 2020, $34.5 million has been donated to the Boston Resiliency Fund (BRF), and 377 Boston-based organizations have received more than $34.1 million in funding.
