Meadow Montessori holds special science fair
As COVID-19 continues to present challenges for local educators, those at Meadow Montessori School are looking to maintain as many annual traditions as possible including taking part in a science fair.
The regional Monroe County Science Fair will not take place this year due the virus. But Meadow Montessori still put on its annual program.
Curriculum Coordinator Meg Fedorowicz, a former teacher, served as the school s science fair coordinator this year.
“We always ask every single child to do a project  it’s not really an option to not do it,” Fedorowicz said.
Students from kindergarten through Grade Eight expected to come up with a question they d like to explore and complete their project based on the steps of the scientific method. ....

In response to a surge in positive COVID-19 cases and subsequent quarantines, Monroe Public Schools announced last month students would remain on remote learning through April 16. The decision came after the district moved four schools to remote learning.  ....

Meadow Montessori students draw MLK, Rosa Parks for Black History Month

Sometimes creativity delves deeper than painting a pretty picture.
When it comes to coping with challenging subjects, Amy Arnold, a local artist and Meadow s art teacher said art is one of the most effective ways at prompting students to talk about difficult emotions, ones they might not entirely understand.
So during a time when racial tensions are high and media coverage is frequent, Arnold was inspired to use Black History Month, which is celebrated annually in February, to not only teach students about prominent African American leaders of history, but to provide a creative outlet for students to divulge their emotions.  ....
