How Indonesia plans to benefit from EFTA trade deal

Indonesia’s House of Representatives recently approved a draft trade deal with the four member European Free Trade Association (EFTA) that is expected to facilitate foreign investment and liberalise trade in goods and services, particularly commodities such as palm oil and raw metals.
The Indonesia-EFTA Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IE-CEPA) was approved by the House on April 9 and has been called Indonesia’s doorway to the wider European market. The non-EU trade bloc consists of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. ....

JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post/ANN): Domestic car sales skyrocketed in March as a luxury tax (PPnBM) cut for small cars came into effect, but overall sales remained below prepandemic levels, meeting observers’ expectations about the effect of key incentives on consumer spending.
Nearly 85,000 cars were sold domestically in March, up 72.5 per cent from the previous month and up 10.5 per cent from March of last year, according to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo).
Some consumers decided in March to buy a new car, while others made purchases they had delayed from February – when the incentive was announced – to take advantage of the savings. ....

Indonesia air traffic forecast to fully recover in 2026

JAKARTA, April 19 (Jakarta Post/ANN): Indonesia’s domestic and international flight volume is projected to fully recover by 2026, mainly assuming outbreak containment goes as planned, according to a recent key study.
Domestic flight volume is expected to recover to pre-pandemic levels in 2024 while international volumes in 2026, according to the study conducted by Padjadjaran University (UNPAD) and commissioned by the Indonesia National Air Carrier Association (INACA).
UNPAD researchers explained on Thursday the projections assumed that Indonesia successfully completed its second phase vaccination program of 38.87 million citizens by March 2022 and that most of Asia, Europe and the United States optimized their vaccination programmes by that same year, as per schedule. ....
