With corn (maize) prices rising to an eight-year high in the global market, Chinese grain importers are diversifying their suppliers.. More importantly, they are substituting the feed grain with wheat and rice.
However, this trend may be short-lived since the prices are expected to stabilise over the next few months before heading lower.
The US Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service Post in China reported that the substitution rate of wheat is as high as 30 per cent. The post based its report on the proceedings at the China Feed Industry Expo and Conference in Chongqing last month. ....

Wheat Futures Ease As U.S. Warms Up
Wheat for May delivery fell 0.6% to $6.38 1/2 a bushel on the Chicago Board of Trade on Friday in reaction to unusually warm temperatures in winter-wheat growing areas as well as forecasts for Midwest rainfall. Soybeans for May delivery fell 0.1% to $14.13 1/4 a bushel. Corn for May delivery rose 0.1% to $5.39 a bushel.
Midwest weather was seen as helping winter wheat grow ahead of harvesting in the coming months. Soft export demand and weak seasonal signals were also at play, said Arlan Suderman of StoneX. Moderate-to-heavy precipitation is expected in the Midwest over the next seven days, which is supportive for soil conditions, according to DTN. ....

U.S. Wheat Drops on Signal of Lower Demand

Wheat for May delivery fell 1.5% to $6.42 1/2 a bushel on the Chicago Board of Trade Thursday after Egypt s grain buying authority paid a lower price for grain exports, indicating lower demand for wheat.
Soybeans for May delivery rose 0.3% to $14.13 1/2 a bushel.
Corn for May delivery rose 0.8% to $5.38 1/2 a bushel.

Follow the Leader: Wheat futures fell Thursday, after the Egyptian state grains buyer purchased Romanian wheat for a price cheaper than its previous purchase $281.49 per ton vs. $291.70 last month. Egypt launched this tender for 360,000 tons late yesterday, for delivery in mid-April.
Better Than Expected: Projections for Brazilian crop production rose from the previous month, according to the latest data from Brazil s crop agency Conab.
