Robin and Keith Mudrey of Hermitage, Pa., stopped to visit Mill Creek Park and took in the sight of Lantermanâs Mill and the falls there. MetroParks director Aaron Young said outdoor use of the park system has âskyrocketedâ because of the pandemic.
YOUNGSTOWN Many places within Mill Creek MetroParks reopened this week, as activities are being phased in with virus safety protocols.
Aligning with national, state and local health orders, all outdoor-based recreation facilities, education programs, recreation leagues and events are now open.
“We’ve been monitoring our potential reopening for some time,” MetroParks Executive Director Aaron Young said, adding the status of vaccinations has been taken into consideration as park administration decided how to reopen the park. ....

“There’s obviously a balance between utilizing eminent domain. To use it for a recreational trail that is affecting so many peoples’ lives it seems to be an overstep,” state Rep. Al Cutrona said.

COLUMBUS A new Ohio House bill revisits ongoing legal battles over local land seizures by Mill Creek MetroParks for a recreational bike trail.
House Bill 63, introduced last week by state Reps. Al Cutrona of Canfield, R-59th, and Reggie Stolzfus of Paris Township, R-50th, would revise the state’s eminent domain laws to give governing bodies and probate courts veto powers when such land-taking is for a recreational trail. ....
