Western Connecticut State University senior Bakhtawar Izzat and recent graduate Isaac Jean-Pierre have been named recipients of this year’s Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award for outstanding academic achievement and engagement in service and other activities in the university, regional and global communities.
Izzat, of Bethel, is a candidate this May to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration, maintaining a GPA in a range of 3.92 to 4.0. Jean-Pierre, of Norwalk, earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Management in December, graduating magna cum laude with a GPA of 3.87.
Izzat, a Kathwari Honors student at WCSU, has demonstrated a diversity of interests ranging from academic research and peer mentoring to community service, women’s health, social justice and international diplomacy. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has today announced that three-time Paralympic medallist and former ITF World Champion Kai Schrameyer of Germany has been named as the recipient of the ITF’s Brad Parks Award for 2021.
The Brad Parks Award, named after the founding father of wheelchair tennis, is presented to an individual or organisation that has made a significant contribution to wheelchair tennis on an international basis.

Schrameyer won the first of his Paralympic medals in Barcelona in 1992, claiming the men’s singles silver medal behind his wheelchair tennis idol Randy Snow at the first Paralympic Tennis event to have full medal status. ....

Three-time Paralympic medallist Kai Schrameyer has been named as the winner of the International Tennis Federation s (ITF) Brad Parks Award for 2021.
The 53-year-old German has been picked for the prize which recognises a significant contribution to wheelchair tennis on an international basis .
Schrameyer has been influential both on and off the court and has been congratulated by Parks - the American player regarded as the sport s inventor.
Schrameyer won silver in the men s singles at the Barcelona 1992 Paralympics after defeat to American Randy Snow - who he considered to be his idol - in the final. ....
