New Organization Supports, Promotes Black-Owned Pest Management Firms


SACRAMENTO, Calif. With the goal of providing a network of support for current black pest control owner/operators and promoting black ownership of pest control firms, Black Ownership Matters (BOM) has been launched.
The organization was formed organically in summer 2020 when a group of like-minded individuals and organizations from across the country came together with the goal of supporting black economic advancement in the field of pest management.
As Black Ownership Matters President Jason Payne explained, “Significant inequality in this industry, and all industries, has created a racial wealth gap that we all are struggling to close. In order to help close this gap, our goal is to promote black ownership of pest control companies and advancement in the industry by providing financial guidance, business resources, employee development, mentorship and community support.” ....

CTAHR) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, passed away at home in the early morning hours on January 27. Supportive of colleagues and a leader in
CTAHR, Brennan was a great mentor for many.
Brennan came to Hawaiʻi in 1967 after graduating with his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University. He studied in the entomology department (now part of the Department of Plant and Environmental Protection Sciences), earning his master’s degree in 1969 and
PhD in 1975. He served as
UH’s pesticide coordinator and pesticide applicator training coordinator from 1976 to 2001.

During much of this period, Brennan was a member of, and even chaired, the Department of Environmental Biochemistry. He took a leave from August 1997 to January 1999 to work in Washington, ....
