Work to demolish old Boones Creek Middle School nearing completion

Work is nearing an end to demolish the old Boones Creek Middle School, a Great Depression-era structure located at 4352 N. Roan St.
Taff & Frye, a demolition and environmental remediation company, began work in late March to demolish the brick building, which was originally constructed in 1939 as a high school under the Works Progress Administration. Two additions were made to the building in the late 1950s.
Boones Creek High School became a middle school in 1972 with the opening of a new Boones Creek Elementary School and Daniel Boone High School.
The Washington County Board of Education has agreed to sell the 12-acre Boones Creek Middle School tract to a buyer for $1.435 million. A contract has been signed and work continues to close the property transaction. ....

Board votes down counter offer on old Boones Creek school

The Washington County Board of Education voted down a motion Monday to make a counter offer to a prospective buyer for the old Boones Creek Middle School property.
The board was told an undisclosed buyer had offered $1.2 million for the 12-acre site, where board members have already agreed to demolish the vacant school building later this month.
School board member Mike Masters made a motion to offer a $1.375 million purchase price to the buyer, which would cover the countyâs cost for that demolition work.
Board member Keith Ervin said he preferred âto tear downâ the old building and put the property âback on the market.â ....

The wait is over: Washington County students return to classrooms

After months of operating on a virtual schedule and being off this week for âsnow days,â all students of the Washington County School System were able to return to their classrooms on Thursday.
Bill Flanary, the countyâs director of schools, told members of the Washington County Health, Education and Welfare Committee that in-person learning is back in session.
âThis is the first day of the entire school year that weâve welcomed 100% of students back to school,â Flanary said. âIâve spoken to every principal today. Itâs happening.â
The Washington County Board of Education voted last month to return all pre-K-12 students to classroom instruction. Students who have medical reasons or who have a virtual instructional contract will continue to have access to online learning. ....
