108 centres, 256 companies of central forces, strict Covid measures: All set for May 2 counting for West Bengal assembly polls | West Bengal Election News

KOLKATA: The election commission has made elaborate arrangements for counting of votes on May 2 for the West Bengal assembly polls and put in place measures to ensure strict adherence to health safety protocols, amid a raging second wave of Covid-19, an official said on Saturday.
A three-tier security arrangement has been in place at 108 counting centres where polled electronic voting machines (EVMs), along with voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) units have been kept in strong rooms, he said.
At least 292 observers have been appointed and 256 companies of central forces deployed at the counting centres spread across 23 districts of the state that voted in eight phases between March 27 and April 29. ....

Ahead of phase-4 of West Bengal polls, the BJP cancidate from Bhawanipore, Rudranil Ghosh, alleged that he was attacked by the TMC goons on Thursday night, while he was campaigning for Bengal elections. Sources have informed Republic Media Network that at least 15 BJP workers and supporters have been injured during the clash. KOLKATA: Nandigram has already voted, but the BJP continued to use TMC chief Mamata Banerjee s decision to contest against Suvendu Adhikari as a political tool to gain electoral dividend in the next six phases of the election.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a rally in South 24-Parganas on Saturday, said Mamata should accept her defeat in Nandigram and she should not contest from another seat as her twin defeat will lead to the TMC’s disappearance from Bengal’s political landscape. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other heavyweights of the saffron camp echoed the same. ....

Battle for Nandigram: Massive face-off between Mamata and Suvendu on polling day

KOLKATA: The second phase of West Bengal Assembly elections witnessed a massive face-off between two heavyweight contestants CM Mamata Banerjee and her former cabinet colleague Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram over the issue of the former s surprise visit to a polling booth.
She rushed to the booth after receiving complaints that TMC polling agents are not being allowed there,  and spent two hours sitting in a wheelchair. Soon after Mamata left, Suvendu visited the same booth and said Mamata was scared of her defeat in Nandigram.
When Mamata was arguing with the senior police officers outside the polling booth, BJP supporters assembled there and raised Jai Sri Ram slogans. Another group of TMC supporters, too, gathered nearby and shouted Khela Hobe (there will be a game).
