Public hearing set for new RV park proposal

TOWER The city’s planning and zoning commission here has set a public hearing for Tuesday, July 20, at 5:30 p.m. to take input from residents on a proposed new RV park located on Pike Bay.
The commission, on Tuesday, determined that a conditional use permit application filed by developer Justin Renner was “substantially complete,” and was ready to take to a public hearing.
The proposed RV park would be accessed off of Marina Drive, located just west of the Standing Bear Marina. The previous owners of the 58-acre property, Gary and Charity Ross, had sought for years to create an RV park on the site, but had run into roadblocks from city officials at the time and eventually gave up on their plans. ....

ELY – A public bid opening last Thursday for the first phase of a multi-year building and facility renovation project for the Ely school district gave construction managers and district officials an idea of the real-world cost expectations, estimated to cost about $20 million.
Project construction manager Kraus-Anderson Construction Co. hosted the bid opening in the Washington School auditorium. Just a couple of contractors, a representative from Architectural Resources, Inc., two ISD 696 staff members, a school board member, and a member of the local media witnessed the arduous task of opening and tabulating the sealed bids on more than 30 work scopes. ....

Bog Walk renovation project going out for bids

ORR- A late addition to Monday’s Orr City Council agenda brought welcome news – the plans for replacing the badly deteriorating Mickey Elverum Bog Walk are complete and the nearly $400,000 project will be put out for bids for a contractor within the next week.
Alan Johnson, president of Benchmark Engineering, came to the meeting with schematic drawings and a bid packet for the council to review and provide feedback, the results of the city’s $10,000 initial investment in the project. A $196,000 grant from the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board and a $186,000 Outdoor Recreation grant from the Department of Natural Resources will cover the costs of construction. ....
