CLEVELAND, Ohio There’s never been a better time to be a bike enthusiast in Northeast Ohio. The region is experiencing a trail boom and new plans regularly call for extending the network.
To give you an idea of the major trails available to explore, cleveland.com has compiled a list of 21 bike paths, beginning with the longest.
Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail
1. Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail
Trail mileage: Approx. 101 miles (some incomplete)
Out-and-back ride: Approx. 202 miles
Surface type: Paved, crushed limestone
Ride ideas:
For an urban bike ride, consider starting at the Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation and biking north on the Towpath. If the Center Street Bridge is open, you can make it all the way to Lake Erie. ....

Cleveland Metroparks adds 52 acres to West Creek Reservation

CLEVELAND, Ohio Cleveland Metroparks recently added 52 acres critical to the protection of natural resources and to the development of future trail connections at West Creek Reservation.
The acquisition includes property in one of the few Cuyahoga County communities in which Cleveland Metroparks did not previously have a footprint.
“West Creek Reservation is one of our fastest-growing reservations, and we’re thrilled to add land in the City of Seven Hills to our Emerald Necklace,” said Brian M. Zimmerman, Cleveland Metroparks CEO.
The park now directly serves Parma, Independence and Seven Hills. Perhaps more importantly, the additional acreage provides opportunities for future connections between West Creek Reservation and the Hemlock Creek Trail in Independence, as well as the Towpath Trail, as Northeast Ohio’s trail network continues to grow. ....

Cleveland Metroparks Announces West Creek Reservation Expansion

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH Recent land acquisitions have added more than 52 acres of preserved land to Cleveland Metroparks West Creek Reservation, including parkland in several communities including Seven Hills for the first time in the park district s 103-year history, officials announced this week.
With the new acreage additions to the West Creek Reservation,Cleveland Metroparks has grown by more than 12 percent over the past 10 years and now protects more than 24,000 acres in 49 different communities.
Park district officials said that the new land acquisition now includes the protection of forests and streams northwest and southeast of the existing West Creek Reservation, which serves Seven Hills, Independence and Parma.
